The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published an application from Apple that revealed that Apple is working on a solar management system that can be integrated into portable devices, thereby eliminating bulky external converters. There are already many apple patent applications for solar energy, but this is the first technology that can be implemented in the short term.
According to Apple's patent description, they have found a way to integrate solar energy converters directly inside electronic devices. Their solution is not entirely new, but based on existing technologies, they can even be manufactured using off-the-shelf parts.
Current solar panels require an additional circuit board to convert solar energy into current compatible with electronic devices. In particular, iPhones and MacBooks use DC power and need to be converted to supply power. Apple's solar management system includes a system microcontroller (SMC) and a charger. Solar energy can flow through this system and be measured and converted to the available voltage for the device. And Apple's management system is not only used to manage solar energy, but also manage the main current at the same time. This eliminates the need for an extra power manager.
